True OG earned its name by taking the OG Kush formula and refusing to dilute it. Elemental Seeds developed the strain in California during the mid-2000s by self-pollinating and selecting from a high-quality OG Kush line, chasing a version that held onto the family’s unmistakable flavor while tightening up the expression.

The finished cut stayed planted firmly in old-school OG territory. Pine, kerosene-like fuel, damp earth, sour lemon, and a little skunk define the profile, with the citrus cutting through just enough to keep the heavier gas from swallowing everything else. It smells less polished than a lot of modern dessert hybrids and is better for it.

True OG also stacked hardware. Since 2010, the strain has collected multiple cannabis competition wins, including a first-place Best Indica finish, and High Times later named it among its top strains of 2015. That run helped cement it as more than another OG offshoot floating around California.

People who keep this strain in heavy rotation describe the first stretch as focused, euphoric, and mentally settled before the body side starts carrying more weight. Relaxation becomes the dominant note as the session develops, and higher-potency batches can land firmly in heavy-evening territory.

True OG never needed a reinvention. Its whole appeal is that it sharpened a classic and left the fingerprints intact.

True OG was developed from OG Kush genetics through self-pollination and selective breeding, essentially refining desirable traits already present in the original line rather than introducing a separate parent.

Plants tend to stay relatively compact for an OG, with sturdy branching and dense, resin-heavy flowers. Indoor flowering generally lands around 8–9 weeks, or roughly 60 days, with outdoor plants finishing later depending on climate.

The dense flower structure makes late-bloom humidity control especially important. Good airflow, strategic pruning, and a clean canopy can help reduce moisture buildup while keeping light distributed through the plant. True OG can perform indoors or outdoors, but stable conditions tend to bring out the strongest combination of resin production, fuel-heavy aroma, and compact flower development.

Because OG selections can show meaningful variation from seed, growers working from selfed or later seed stock should expect some phenotype differences in stretch, density, and finishing time.
