8 of the best strains for finding new music

March 4, 2021   12:00 pm PST | Updated 1 month ago

When it comes to finding new music, there's no magic weed strain to make the process easier — but there are weed strains that make the process more enjoyable. These strains can hit your mind and body with a creative euphoria, producing a happy, loose, and relaxed feeling as you dive into Spotify playlists, surf YouTube, and skim SoundCloud for hours trying to find that next great underground artist or forgotten tune.

If that sounds like your mission, and you're looking to spend the rest of your day getting high on a quest for new music, here are eight strains that you should smoke along the way.

Apple Fritter

Most people probably think you need to grab a heavy, sedative indica in order to sit in your chair for hours when it's time to blast some tuneskis, but when it comes to finding new music, sedative may overwhelm your body so much that you brain can't even focus on the task at hand. Instead, we suggest strains like Apple Fritter. It provides an uplifting, feel-good high, that washes away stress, and replaces it with optimism.

Apple Fritter is a cross of Sour Apple and Animal Cookies with a sweet, apple pie taste that makes most people feel relaxed and happy. It's a perfect social strain for talking life with the homies, as well as diving into all of the music that Curren$y has snuck out over the past year.

Kush Mints

Kush Mints — or the strains crossed with it like Animal Face x Kush Mints — is excellent for a heavy high that puts you in a state of euphoria. That's why it's an excellent suggestion for kicking back, smoking some good weed, and finding your next favorite album. In fact, I was literally smoking Animal Face x Kush Mints when I came across the new Savon album, and boy, lemme tell ya, AZURE is a super vibe.

Kush Mints is a cross of Bubba Kush and Animal Mints. It is known for an herbal, minty, and Cookies-like flavor profile and a delightfully potent high that leaves people feeling relaxed and happy.

Gary Payton

You might look at it as hype, but the truth is: Gary Payton smacks, boy. It's some delicious weed, and the potent effects are perfect for people who want to smoke all day long without getting too sleepy or stupid. Because of that, it's also a great strain to smoke when scoping new sounds.

Gary Payton is believed to be a cross of The Y and Snowman strains. Its sweet, spicy, earthy, and funky terpene profile make for a damn delicious smoke. The balanced high that follows is great for anyone that needs a mood-booster.

Animal Cookies

Animal Cookies has been crossed with so many strains that you can probably find anything for any purpose with its genetics. Its stoney and relaxing qualities make it great for chillin' as you skim the web for your life's soundtrack.

Animal Cookies comes from parents Fire OG and GSC. It is said to have a cherry cookie flavor,  indica-leaning, and makes people feel relaxed and happy.

Super Skunk

You can never go wrong with some Skunk genetics. It's an original hybrid that is known for being the best of both sativa/indica worlds: you get a potent relaxing high that also gives way to a stoney euphoria. Snatch up some Super Skunk and see what your Spotify Discover Weekly playlist has to offer.

Super Skunk comes from combining Skunk #1 and Afghani genetics. You can expect a sweet and funky terpene profile followed by a long-lasting euphoria. Its most reported effects are euphoric, relaxed, and aroused.

Rainbow Chip

Rainbow Chip is just a straight up good smoke. When it comes from a high quality grower, you get this wildly unique flavor that's sweet, but also gassy and a bit fruity. And the high? Oooohweee. Rainbow Chip will have you stoned, so much so that instead of finding new music, it might be better suited for just sitting around and listening to it.

Rainbow Chip is a cross between Sunset Sherbet and Mint Chocolate Chip. It is known for producing euphoric, focused, and happy effects.

Cheetah Piss

Cheetah Piss is probably my favorite Cookies product. It's excellent, man. One joint and you'll feel happy and goofy and ready to stare directly at the sun as if you're invincible. It's the type of high that makes literally anything fun, and with that, you'd definitely enjoy smoking it and running through Rap Caviar to see what should be on your post-Covid Party Playlist.

Cheetah Piss is a rumored Cookies cocktail of Lemonade, Gelato #42, and London Poundcake 97, but only a select few really know the answer. It has a super loud aroma that basically smells like a sweet, funky armpit, and the taste profile comes through with a sour, citrus flavor.

Cannalope Haze

You might read the name and think Cannalope Haze would be a light experience that will make you feel energized, but nah. This strain is potent, and honestly smokes like a Skunk strain in terms of providing that overly-stoney euphoria that most would reserve for the night. That's why it's an excellent strain to smoke while running through playlist after playlist on your new music hunt.

Cannalope Haze was bred from Original Haze and a Mexican landrace strain. As the name would suggest, it has a fruity, tropical, yet earthy smell and taste. Its top reported effects are talkative, euphoric, and happy.
