Purple Panty Dropper, better known as PPD, is a Humboldt Seed Company original combining Matanuska Mist, Oregon Grape, and Purple Haze genetics. It's an old-school Humboldt mashup with a name that isn't exactly subtle and flowers that don't make much effort to blend in either.
Purple is the opening act. The flowers can develop deep violet coloration beneath a heavy coat of resin, while the aroma piles sweet Concord grape and ripe fruit over flowers, earth, and a musky funk. Peppery spice comes through on the smoke, keeping all that grape and floral sweetness from drifting into candy territory.
Longtime fans describe a happy, euphoric start that gradually settles into deeper relaxation. There's enough brightness early to keep things lively, but the indica side tends to gain ground as the experience develops. PPD earned its reputation as the kind of strain that starts the party before eventually suggesting everybody find somewhere comfortable to sit.
Its bigger legacy is in the breeding room. Humboldt Seed Company continued working with PPD as a parent, most famously pairing it with Razzleberry to create Blueberry Muffin. That makes Purple Panty Dropper more than another purple Humboldt throwback. Its genetics are still showing up in jars generations later.
Purple Panty Dropper produces large plants with sturdy, thick branches thanks to its indica heritage. The strain is resilient in the face of humidity and environmental hardships, making it easy to raise in indoor and outdoor environments. It does especially well with Sea of Green (SOG) and Screen of Green (ScROG) methods. PPD flowers in 49 to 63 days indoors and by mid-October at the latest outside. In ideal conditions, the strain produces about 12 ounces of bud per plant, a slightly below-average yield.
