What are diamonds and sauce?
Diamonds in sauce is a solvent-based concentrate comprising coarse, crumbly, highly potent THCA diamonds (or crystalline) suspended in an oily, sticky, aromatic, terpene-rich sauce. You might also see this goo called “diamonds and sauce” or “diamonds & sauce.”
The crystals resemble tiny, translucent, glassy shards and can vary slightly in size, from gritty to chunky. The golden sauce is runny and thick and clings to the THC crystals like sticky honey or maple syrup.
While the THC crystals contain no terpenes, making them odorless and flavorless, the terp sauce is fragrant and flavorful, giving the final product its aromatic flavor profile.
Most of the diamonds in sauce sold in today's market is made with live fresh frozen cannabis plants, which helps preserve the maximum terpene content in the sauce portion of the product.
Diamonds in sauce are made by extracting cannabinoids from flower using chemical solvents through a closed-loop extraction process, then purified through winterization and filtration. Acetic acid is used to crystallize the THCA molecules, then the crystals are separated and dried, resulting in the nearly pure THCA crystals (99% or more). During the crystallization process, the terpene-rich portion separates and remains liquid — this is the sauce the diamonds are later combined with.
Diamonds in sauce is considered a high-potency concentrate, so it's best to start with small doses and hits, especially if you're new to concentrates. Aim for a dose about the size of a grain of rice.
How to consume diamonds in sauce
Dabbing
Smoking with flower
Layer some on top of flower in a bowl
Add to a joint
Mix into a blunt
Use with a bong
Vaping (simplified option)
Find pre-filled vapes on Weedmaps from your local dispensary
Look for liquid diamonds in sauce vape cartridges
Homemade edibles
Heat your diamonds in sauce in the oven at 240°F for about 30 minutes
Mix with other ingredients after heating
This process activates the THC and is called decarboxylating
Frequently asked questions
Yes, terp sauce gets you high. Terp sauce contains the bulk of cannabinoids, including THC, meaning it produces the psychoactive effects that get you high. It's considered one of the most potent concentrates and cannabis products available when combined with diamonds, so dose accordingly.
Keep your diamonds in sauce in an airtight glass container in a cool, dark, dry place. For short-term storage, use a glass jar in a cool and dark place. For medium-term storage, keep them in the refrigerator. For long-term storage, vacuum seal the jars and store them in the freezer to preserve the terpenes in the sauce.
These are all types of cannabis concentrates, each with its own texture, extraction method, and use:
Diamonds are solid, crystalline forms of isolated THCA produced through a solvent-based extraction and crystallization process. They are nearly pure in potency—often 95% or more THCA—but have little to no flavor or aroma on their own. For a more full-spectrum experience that creates an entourage effect, diamonds are often combined with terpene-rich sauce (known as diamonds in sauce).
Live resin is a solvent-based concentrate made from fresh frozen cannabis material. This process helps preserve the plant's terpene profile, resulting in a flavorful and aromatic extract. Live resin can come in various consistencies, including badder, sauce, sugar, and more.
Note: The term resin can be confusing. While it originally referred to the raw sticky substance on cannabis trichomes, in today's concentrate world, live resin specifically refers to a solvent-based extract made from fresh frozen material. It is not the same as rosin, a solventless concentrate made by applying heat and pressure to ice water hash or dry sift. Avoid using "resin" on its own without context to prevent misunderstandings.
Badder (or live resin badder) is a smooth, whipped concentrate with a consistency similar to cake batter. It's made using a chemical solvent like butane or propane to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from fresh frozen flower. The badder texture is achieved by whipping the concentrate during the purge process or by allowing it to cure into a waxy state before whipping. Badder is known for being easy to handle and packed with flavor.
Sauce (or terp sauce) is a concentrate that separates into two main components: THCA crystals and a terpene-rich liquid known as high terpene extract (HTE). It has a viscous, syrup-like texture and can be made from both fresh frozen (creating live sauce) or dried and cured material. Sauce is produced through a controlled separation process designed to enhance flavor, potency, and overall dabbing experience.
