Strawberry Diesel is a name collision with two genuinely different Diesel parents behind it, and growers have argued about which one is "real" for years.
Origin 1: The original comes from Reservoir Seeds, which crossed Kyle Kushman's Strawberry Cough clone with selected Sour Diesel males in a deliberately limited seed release. The line became difficult enough to find that later breeders went back to the genetics rather than simply letting it disappear. Top Dawg Seeds recreated the formula using Sour Diesel BX3, while Fractal Genetics, Ganesh, and Dark Horse Genetics have all worked subsequent generations or reproductions descended from Reservoir's Strawberry Diesel genetics.
Origin 2: A separate version from Lineage Genetics and Holy Smoke Seeds crosses NYC Diesel with Strawberry Cough instead. This is the pedigree that appears across plenty of modern seed listings and retail descriptions as simply "Strawberry Diesel," even though swapping Sour Diesel for NYC Diesel makes it a genetically distinct cultivar from Reservoir's original.
Both versions land in roughly the same flavor neighborhood. Ripe strawberry and sweet berry run straight into diesel fuel, earth, and pungent funk, with citrus and peppery spice sharpening the finish. The strawberry can come across surprisingly fresh and sugary, but there's enough hot fuel underneath to make sure nobody mistakes this for straight fruit salad.
Its followers describe an upbeat, clear-headed lift with an energetic, creative streak and enough relaxation underneath to smooth the edges without immediately killing the momentum. The experience may overlap across versions, but the genetics don't: with Strawberry Diesel, knowing whether Sour Diesel or NYC Diesel is under the hood tells you which strain you're actually smoking.
