Rootbeer is Mean Gene's soda-fountain oddball from Freeborn Selections, crossing Headband with OG Coffee for a cultivar that somehow finds the flavor of an old-school root beer barrel in a pile of Kush and Diesel genetics.

OG Coffee brings plenty of old dirt to the recipe, tracing through Hollywood Pure Kush, Hindu Kush, and Black Affie, while Headband drags OG Kush and Sour Diesel into the family tree. That deep bench helps explain why Rootbeer doesn't taste like somebody dumped vanilla syrup on weed. Earth, herbs, Kush, and spice sit underneath the sweeter sassafras, wintergreen, and creamy soda-shop character that made the line famous.

Reports put creativity and focus in the opening, with euphoria and relaxation sharing the rest of the ride. It's an unusual profile with enough personality that Rootbeer went on to parent GMO Rootbeer and stacks of later Freeborn crosses.

Rootbeer doesn't taste like candy pretending to be soda. It tastes like somebody rolled the whole damn soda fountain.

Rootbeer from Freeborn Selections can grow indoors, outdoors, or in a greenhouse and flowers in roughly 65 days. Mean Gene released the Headband × OG Coffee line as regular seed, not feminized seed. Beyond that, the documented grow record doesn't give us reliable numbers for height or yield, so there's no reason to invent them. About nine weeks from flip to pop the top.
