Purple Runtz didn't stay put in the family tree. At least two versions grew off in their own direction, both still answering to the same name.
Origin 1: The commonly circulated version is described as a purple expression of the Runtz family, tracing to Zkittlez × Gelato. The person who selected this particular cut remains unconfirmed. Sweet-and-sour citrus and tropical fruit sharpen the candy flavor, with grape, berry, and earth also appearing in reports. Published flower listings include batches around 22% THC; the name alone does not establish a stronger potency tier.
Origin 2: Greenpoint Seeds created a distinct Runtz × Purple Punch cross. This indica-leaning version adds another helping of grape and fruit-punch sweetness to the mix, with herbal undertones beneath the sugar. Its breeder describes substantial potency without establishing a dependable THC range. Purple Punch is an actual parent here, rather than an assumption based on the color.
Across these versions, the recurring descriptions favor a dreamy headspace and physical relaxation. Broader feedback also mentions hunger, while Greenpoint emphasizes a calming experience that needn’t become immediately sedating. The appeal is sweet flower with a slower gear: enough mental lift to stay in the conversation, enough body weight to let somebody else find the remote. How far that balance tips depends on the cut and serving.
Greenpoint’s Purple Runtz was released as feminized photoperiod seeds, with a listed flowering window of approximately eight to nine weeks and medium yields. Its breeder notes that the developing colas can become heavy enough to require staking. Adequate spacing and airflow help keep the increasingly dense canopy manageable.
Guidance for the Runtz-phenotype version also commonly places indoor flowering around 56–63 days, with outdoor harvest near early October in suitable Northern Hemisphere conditions. Because that name can cover different selections, the supplier’s observations are more useful than a universal height or yield claim.
Purple coloration varies with genetics and growing conditions. It does not measure potency, and deliberately stressing a plant to deepen its color is no substitute for healthy maturation.
Purple Runtz Cake Auto is a separately named cultivar whose seed-to-harvest schedule should not be applied to these photoperiod versions.
Purple Runtz is available as seeds or clones.
