Power Plant is an old-school Dutch classic with roots in South African sativa genetics. Dutch Passion developed the strain during the 1990s and released it in 1997, keeping its African genetic foundation intact rather than loading it up with unrelated hybrids. It became a fixture of the Netherlands coffeeshop scene and helped define the sharp, energetic sativas that dominated menus before Cookies, Gelato, and dessert strains changed the game.
The profile is earthy and unapologetically old-school. Pungent herbs, dry wood, peppery spice, and pine do most of the talking, with citrus, flowers, and a faint sweetness rounding out the sharper edges. The buds tend to stay bright green beneath rusty orange pistils and a thick shimmer of resin.
Those in the know describe a quick-hitting cerebral high with energy, euphoria, and a social, creative streak. The experience tends to stay more lively than heavy, which helped make Power Plant a longtime coffeeshop favorite. Power Plant grows with serious sativa ambition but without the endless flowering schedule that can come with tropical genetics. Long, resinous colas stack tightly along vigorous branches, with Dutch Passion reporting buds that can stretch beyond 30 centimeters. The aroma stays defiantly old-school: wood, earth, peppery spice, flowers, and pungent herbs, with softer vanilla notes occasionally slipping through. Flowers in mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere, and in April in the Southern Hemisphere. Indoor growers can expect flowering in 8-10 weeks if the plants are kept cool and exposed to regular photoperiod light cycles.
