Mendo Kush has been passed around long enough to grow two family trees. One leads straight to Guru Seeds. The other disappears into a thicket of unnamed Kush genetics.

Origin 1: Guru Seeds built the best-documented Mendo Kush by crossing Mendocino Purps with Purple Kush. Also sold as Mendocino Kush, the name tips its hat to both its Purps parent and Mendocino County in California’s Emerald Triangle. Earth and ripe berry take the first swing, followed by citrus and a sweeter vanilla-caramel finish. Smoke-circle reports run creative, giggly, and energetic, giving the Kush label more spark than expected.

Origin 2: The second Mendo Kush comes with no breeder, no named parents, and a heavier hand. It is credited only to a mix of unnamed Kush-family strains. The nose goes pungent and earthy, with skunk, lemony pine, and sweet berry. Fans describe a quick euphoric pop that cracks open the giggles before the body high rolls in, slows the room down, and pushes the finish toward sleep.

Bag appeal follows the same split. The uncredited version is described as producing small, rounded forest-green buds with amber hairs and a thick frost of white trichomes. Current retail flower wearing the Mendo Kush name often runs denser and darker, with purple streaks cutting through the green. Medical Seeds’ Mendocino Purple Kush travels through similar genetic territory, but the full name matters: it is a separate cultivar, not a third Mendo Kush origin.

Guru Seeds' cut is the only one with real numbers behind it: a moderately fussy grower that stays short and compact indoors, running 10–11 weeks to flower and pulling around 450 g/m² when it's happy. Give it a warm, Mediterranean-style climate — it's chasing its Mendocino County roots, and it shows. The uncredited Kush-family version doesn't have that luxury. No breeder, no published flowering time, no yield data — all anyone's got to go on is the bag appeal already covered above.
