Mendocino Purps is an old-school Northern California cultivar that came out of Mendocino County long before purple weed became its own dispensary category. Also called Mendo Purps or simply The Purps, the original plant circulated as a clone-only cut with no cleanly documented parentage. BC Bud Depot later worked the genetics into a stabilized seed line, releasing its version as The Purps and identifying it as Mendo Purps IBL.
The flower wears its name proudly. Green leaves and buds can darken into deep purple as the plant matures, while the nose runs through ripe grape, berries, sweet earth, pine, and woody spice. Some cuts bring caramel and coffee into the mix, giving Mendo Purps a darker, roasted edge underneath all that fruit. This is purple weed from before every purple strain smelled like a candy aisle.
The consensus among people who've run through a jar is that Mendo Purps can open surprisingly bright, happy, and uplifting before its heavier side starts taking over. Relaxation builds as the high stretches out, with stronger sessions trading that early lift for a heavier, slower finish.
Mendo Purps earned a spot among High Times' Top Ten Strains of the Year in 2007, helping push an already respected Northern California cut into the national spotlight. Its bigger legacy is the purple family that followed. Decades later, the grape-heavy nose, dark coloration, and old-school body weight still make Mendo Purps instantly recognizable.
The balanced hybrid grows well indoors or outdoors, according to BC, though some sources say it produces better indoors using Screen of Green (ScrOG). Mendo Purps flowers relatively quickly, in seven to eight weeks indoors or late September outside, where it can grow up to seven feet tall.
