Blue Star

Blue Star gives old-school blueberry a little more exhaust. Sweet fruit leads, but earth, pine, and a diesel undertow keep the profile rooted in its heavier ancestry. Behind the name is a deliberate breeding project with enough selection work to make the finished cross more than a lucky pairing.
Josh Blue of Blue Star Seed Co. created Blue Star from Death Star and Whitaker Blues. His project began in 2014 with 60 males, narrowed first to 30 and then to ten candidates for test crosses against the Death Star mother. He evaluated the offspring from all ten pairings before selecting the combination behind Blue Star. The resulting F1 brings Death Star’s Sour Diesel and Sensi Star ancestry together with Whitaker Blues’ Quimby and DJ Short Blueberry roots.
That blueberry connection runs deep in Josh’s work. He encountered Blueberry flower at a 1995 Grateful Dead show, met DJ Short around 2015, and developed a working relationship focused on heirloom genetics and new crosses. Blue Star became a recurring parent in that program, appearing in descendants such as Flo Star, Family Blues V3, and Blue Star OG. Later selfed selections and family crosses carry that work forward under their own names.
Josh’s description, “blueberry pie dessert wine,” gets to the heart of the aroma. There is ripe berry sweetness with a richer, darker edge underneath. Michigrown’s expression brings fresh blueberries, earthy pine, and restrained diesel into focus, followed by spice and a sweet finish. The fruit has depth; the fuel gives it a little friction.
Blue Star’s appeal reaches beyond the nose. A euphoric lift and an easier physical pace can share the same session, with mental brightness lingering as the body relaxes. Michigrown describes a creative, clear-headed expression that stays short of pronounced sedation. This is the Blueberry family with a little extra voltage, keeping its warmth while Death Star supplies the bass.
Blue Star began as a regular-seed F1 and is cataloged for indoor and outdoor cultivation. Its breeding history centers on selecting parental combinations and evaluating their offspring, with later generations continuing that work across different expressions of berry, fuel, and hash.
The later 4 Blue Stars release combines a selected Blue Star F1 with four Blue Star F2 selections. This feminized family cross carries a published flowering window of approximately 60–73 days. Its range includes blueberry, sour cherry, skunky diesel, and honey-melon hash aromas, giving the line more variation than its fruit-forward name alone suggests.
Mayberry, a Blue Star S1 selection, is listed at approximately 63–73 days of flowering, with blueberries-and-cream through sour tropical-fruit expressions. Those schedules belong to the named releases; the original F1 has no established flowering duration in its available breeder record.
