'Weed + Grub' — Jim Belushi on Sunshine, Cannabis, and Transformational Tripping

What's the podcast?

“Weed + Grub” is a delightful, heartfelt show about weed, food, sex, and a variety of other topics — hosted by cannabis consultant and former High Times culture editor Mary Jane Gibson, and writer-comedian Mike Glazer.

What's the episode?

Mike and Mary Jane's interview with actor, comedian, and Oregon pot farm owner Jim Belushi is a true gem. Belushi really shows up for the conversation as vibrant, compassionate, and an open book. His newfound passion for cannabis cultivation is a heartwarming highlight.

The Jim Belushi interview is one of our favorite sit-downs with a celeb guest. We had an incredible conversation with him about love, psychedelics, dogs, weed, farming, family, music and more,” Gibson told Weedmaps News. “Skip to 12:30 to hear Jim talk about his transformational experiences with ayahuasca. And listen to him talk about his favorite time he got high, and SNL, at about 38 minutes in.”

“Abdullah and I started the podcast because we want to make sure that as we move into an exciting new era of legalization, we don't lose sight of the true outlaw history of cannabis culture,” Bienenstock told Weedmaps News. “People should understand the struggles and triumphs of this resistance movement, which fought back against injustice and oppressive laws while building a thriving underground community.”

What's the episode?

In the first episode of the podcast, Bienenstock relays the personal history and lifelong love affair of Willie Nelson and weed, culminating in a historic sesh that Willie had on the roof of the White House with President Jimmy Carter's son. Funny, weed-fueled tangents abound, and they're pretty much always welcome.

'Weed Week' — Does Weed Cause Violence? A Debate with Alex Berenson

What's the podcast?

A weekly update of news in cannabis culture, business, science, and everything else going on in the cannasphere; hosted by journalists Alex Halperin and Donnell Alexander.

What's the episode?

Halperin and Alexander engage in a heated debate with Alex Berenson, author of “Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence.” Berenson's book and accompanying New York Times op-ed garnered a lot of attention and controversy for its argument that marijuana is linked to an epidemic of psychosis and violence. The conversation starts to heat up when Alexander calls Berenson out on the conjectured and biased arguments in his work.

“Righteousness indignation on full display feels weird. They don't tell you that,” Alexander told Weedmaps News. “I have done more than a little work on podcasts and radio, and haven't felt more vulnerable than I did allowing myself to be this angry in public. But I really did feel Berenson's intent is not honorable.”

Alexander added that his biggest regret after the debate was not asking Berenson who was financing his prohibition campaign.
