Product description
The true origins of Northern Lights are somewhat elusive, blending myth and reality. Most sources agree that it was initially cultivated in the 1970s by a breeder known as “The Indian” on an island near Seattle, Washington. However, some claim the strain began in California before making its way to Seattle. The strain started with 11 plants, each numbered #1 through #11, but it was Northern Lights #1 and #5 that stood out, both showcasing strong indica characteristics with pure Afghani lineage. What made Northern Lights particularly unique was its ability to remain a pure indica for many years. Eventually, some breeders introduced a bit of Thai sativa genetics into the strain, giving rise to occasional sativa phenotypes, which brought about new traits like a fruity flavor profile and an enhanced cerebral high. Despite these sativa influences, Northern Lights remains primarily indica, celebrated for its relaxing, body-centric effects.

About this strain: Northern Lights

Northern Lights is one of the most famous and sought-after “Indica” strains of all time. Considered a descendant of Afghani and Thai landrace strains, the exact origin of Northern Lights remains a bit of a mystery. It may have originated in Washington in the 1970s, prior to reaching the Netherlands, where breeder Neville Schoenmaker pioneered several Northern Lights phenotypes in the ’80s for The Seed Bank, an early iteration of Sensi Seeds.

Since 1985, when Sensi Seeds first commercialized this strain, Northern Lights has been a landmark Indica strain in cannabis culture. Northern Lights #5 — arguably the most popular Northern Lights phenotype — won the Cannabis Cup in 1989, 1990, and 1992. Sensi Seeds currently offers feminized, non-feminized, and autoflowering Northern Lights seeds.
