Few strains have left fingerprints on modern cannabis quite like GSC. Originally known as Girl Scout Cookies, GSC emerged from Northern California's Cookie Family around 2012 and quickly became one of the defining strains of the decade. The sativa-leaning hybrid crosses a cut of OG Kush with the breeder's own F1 Durban Poison, bringing together OG funk and structure with a brighter, more energetic side.
The plant stays relatively short despite its sativa lean, stacking tight internodes into dense, spear-shaped flowers streaked with lavender calyxes and heavy resin. Early GSC runs produced several phenotypes, but Thin Mint became the breakout cut and one of the most recognizable expressions of the genetics.
Then the trophies started piling up. GSC took first place for Best Hybrid at the 2013 High Times Southern California Cannabis Cup and collected additional Cannabis Cup honors as its reputation spread. The bigger legacy came afterward: GSC became breeding-room royalty, throwing genetics into countless modern crosses and helping launch an entire Cookies family tree that still dominates dispensary menus.
When cultivated indoors, GSC’s flowering time is approximately 62-71 days after switching the light cycle from veg to flower. Outside, growers will need to wait until mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere, mid-April in the Northern Hemisphere, for harvest. Regardless of wherever GSC is cultivated, the plant wants to grow tall and requires training, pruning, and full exposure to light to reach its maximum yield potential.
