Amendment 2 was voter-enacted by the Florida population on November 8th of 2016. Amendment 2, or the Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative expanded the previously existing medical cannabis laws in Florida for patients diagnosed with a debilitating condition. Since the passing of the Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative the Florida Department of Health began the Office of Medical Marijuana Use. This office is in charge of creating and implementing the Health Department’s rules for medical cannabis. The Office of Medical Marijuana Use is also responsible for overseeing the Medical Marijuana Use Registry in Florida, and issues the licensing to cultivators, processors, and dispensaries of medical cannabis.
