Mindful Medical Marijuana Dispensary

My Negative Experience at Mindful

Before I begin, I apologize this review ended up being so long. I did make paragraphs for this, but for some reason they are not appearing in the format I had made here. Also, this is an edit to the review here I posted, edit date 11/13/2017. I believe the situation I had there could have been remedied peacefully by some of the staff/non-managers, in speaking of the staff who have been helpful to me at Mindful. This review acknowledges their efforts, and I hope them well despite this. I'm going to attempt to fix the paragraphing of this review, but if it doesn't work, perhaps WeedMaps could fix this. There also ought to be a "show more" tab shortening the appearance of long reviews like mine from appearing in full on the main review screen. Anyways, my review : I have a severe disability which I'm afflicted with by its progressive neuropathic degeneration and muscular atrophy. I suffer from the effects of this in many various ways, including chronic pain and issues involving my lack of mobility. There are other problems from my health condition being as it is, but my pain and mobility are the factors relating to my review of Mindful, both in terms of why I went to Mindful and what seems to be a major frustration of the staff when trying to accommodate me there. My review is taking into consideration the general nature of Mindful being that it basically is accessible if a person can manage navigating the large long ramp outside the front of the dispensary, along with the store being plenty large with lots of space, which can be a good thing for maneuverability, but can also be a bad thing for getting around the store takes more walking. These weren't really an issue for me, as the store staff helped me in/out of the dispensary by providing a wheelchair to transit between the facility and the car. Normally these good aspects resolving the bad would give me reason to increase the rating score, since they give a good resolution to the bad where the problems are not much of a factor, in which case really depends on how the staff perceive you over time with what they need to help you with, how often they do, and other factors possibly beyond your control to the point of blatant discrimination. I believe, sadly, that this is what happened to me at Mindful. I'm going to explain the situation, but I'm writing this with the disclaimer that this was my experience and any similar or other kind of negative interaction may or may not happen to anyone reading this who either currently are or considering becoming a patient/victim of Mindful. I'm not going to name names of the staff at Mindful, but I'll mention the job position of what I'm generally inclined to believe they have there, since I've been going to Mindful for several weeks until my last visit, the one I'm going to write about here in my review, which occurred this past Thursday evening, 11/09/2017, at around 5pm cst. I also apologize for the length of this review. I'm very detailed in describing things for people to get a good understanding of what happened to me in situations that have affected me. I had a scheduled appointment at Mindful on Thursday at 5pm cst for the light therapy session that was promoted throughout the week. The staff member I usually get helped by who made the appointment for me the week prior when the light therapy presentation event was first announced (I made sure to get it reserved A.S.A.P. knowing how popular these events can be at Mindful from one a few weeks ago involving the Magical Butter Machine), she unfortunately was not on duty Thursday evening. I say "unfortunately", because as she was very nice to me every time I went there, I figure the negative experience wouldn't have happened. Well, at least I think it wouldn't have happened that night. Although since the incident at Mindful, I'm very suspicious as to the genuity of the staff's viewpoint of me as was presented to me during most visits, with the exception of Thursday evening. I'll explain... The staff who were there that night, were the assistant to the General Manager, who was one of the main people involved in the situation. Then the Manager, who helped me get prepared for the light therapy session when I arrived, where I'll compliment her efforts helping me with that, which was along with the therapist helping me too. Then there was a staff member who I refer to as a Product Specialist, who seems very knowledgable about Cannabis products. A reminder, I'm not guaranteed these are their official titles at Mindful, but rather from my understanding of tidbits in what I've generally seen/heard there. Also to note again, the staff may or may not be negative in their interactions with other customers. So, please read this as it is just my explaining what had happened and that it is something for consideration with your business, but not in terms of judgment. After the light therapy appointment, which again was an event, not a regular service offered by Mindful, I was taken over to the counter where I normally am helped by the staff member who wasn't there. I figure she wasn't needed there that night, along with the other staff who weren't there, because of the very few people in attendance for the light therapy event which was not busy at all. To be exact, there was no customer, patient, etc. waiting because of me or any possible delay I may have caused, which I didn't, and if anyone was ever waiting because of me, I would have volunteered they get helped first, but that means if there is another customer needing helped, not intended to mean ignore me until I say the thing that is good enough for the staff to understand as "I'm ready". At least in terms of presence, the staff member who normally helped me never ignored me and always was interacting with me by explaining the product, talking about relating matters and actively listening to my input, etc. However, since she was not there that night, the Assistant to the General Manager (I'll use AGM for short), was "supposedly" going to help me. Now in case the General Manager writes in with a rebuttal, I know I need to be completely factual and genuine here, which I am being totally honest and have made sure to note many times that this is not meant to be a judgement against Mindful, but as an observation people can consider from my experience as they wish, in which I've added complementary mentions here to which are just as honest as anything else I'm writing in this review. So to note... in the past, the AGM has been nice towards me in passing, and there is no reason whatsoever for me to have had any sort of negativity in my interaction with her, or to assume and/or invent anything negative out of it. But as I sat there for around a half hour basically being ignored and having observations of discriminatory examples in front of me with no attempt to correct a really bad situation developing, of course its going to lead me to writing about it in a review, as I can't just say that Mindful is good or bad, without making an effort to explain. The scene was this. I was sitting there asking questions about three products, one was CBD mints that the AGM did tell me they were out of, after laughing a bit about it, then asking the Product Specialist (PS for short) quietly about it, which I heard a small bit about something involving them buying the THC version. This was quite rude to not explain to me while I'm sitting right there having the only option to listen in/overhear the explanation, as I was treated though as I didn't matter/wasn't worth telling about the mixup. When ordering issues have happened at other stores I've been to, I've always received a full explanation for it, never having a display of ignorance and rudeness about something while employees explain the situation among themselves but not to me, then leading to unnecessary giggling by the staff about it. Matters kept getting worse after I made several attempts asking the AGM questions relating to the Optimus Prime flower. She kept responding with simple unhelpful statements, such as "thats a good strain", and "you want to buy it", without giving me any kind of detail about the product. I even tried to get her more involved in trying to interact with me about the product when I told her "I'll try looking these online for more information, but most of the strains I'm interested in from Mindful's menu (lower THC, higher CBD) don't seem to have much information". By the way, while there certainly are dispensaries in Illinois with less product selection than Mindful, the options there are more limited than other dispensaries in the area. Prices though are good, and I will say that they do have a fair 10% discount for both vets and the disabled, not just vets as some other dispensaries limit. Sadly, Mindful discriminates in other areas of their business, which I experienced that night... Since my attempts at communicating with the AGM were not getting her interaction, I decided I'd look things up online my smartphone, then try mentioning things I read that I could say something about which might, maybe get her attention. Before I could find anything though, the PS helping a young, tall customer over at the register next to me, brought up their Gelato 45 flower and was giving a great amount of detail about it to the customer. By the way, I prefer the term "customer" for personal/political reasons I won't really mention here, other than to say that Mindful may be better for the kind of person who is more customer than patient, regarding needs from staff. At one point, either the PS gave the customer a bottle from which to smell the Gelato 45 or "possibly" another product to smell, which I'll write more about in a bit. At that time, I asked the AGM about the Gelato 45, who ignored my first question about its color, then tried to brush off my next question pertaining to the Indica/Sativa ratio (which is a very important issue to me, since I have difficulty with side effects from Sativas that must be kept down to a 15% or less amount in products I purchase). She got a bit snippy towards me when I asked her if I could see the bottle for it as the PS let the other customer see and probably smell too. Finally, she went to get the bottle, which didn't show the ratio, then gloated about how that company's bottles never show the ratio (since she made a brief comment earlier that the bottle wouldn't show it, but I couldn't count on her word then because she also was confusing my interest in this as being the THC amount, not the Indica/Sativa ratio, which is the reason why I still wanted to see the bottle). As I was sitting there not getting any additional help, I was left to watch as she (the AGM) went over to speak with the PS and the customer he was helping. it was for general chit chat, not a need for assistance. While she did not give the customer the detail level of support the PS gave him, she was being more helpful to him than she was to me the entire time. Meanwhile, the Co-Manager was walking around a few times and asked if everything was okay, to which while the AGM said yes and everything was fine with the PS and the other customer, I sat there ignoring the question, hoping that perhaps she might say "is something wrong?" I really did not want to turn the experience negative for the other customer by my complaining, so I simply decided to ask another customer who had just appeared, figuring he might need the attention of the AGM, I asked if he would go to get my caretaker from the waiting area for us to leave. The Co-Manager brought me out to the waiting area, while my caretaker pushed me out to the car for us to leave. The Co-Manager came out to the car to collect the wheelchair they have for patient use (a good aspect of Mindful so long as the staff genuinely likes you and wants to help you, otherwise it seems a burden on them - more about that in a bit). The Co-Manager (CM for short now that she is more involved at this point) asked if things were okay. As I was outside not to complain in front of other customers, I explained why this was so bad, etc. She didn't say anything to resolve the situation, and made a rude, insinuating comment of me lying "She (the AGM) wouldn't ignore a customer, wouldn't show discrimination, etc." At that point prior to me getting really angry about this and saying things that might not be good for me to say, my caretaker and I left. We went to a really nice restaurant we go to often and know the server and management pretty well there, we had the typical amazing service and even got support from the server regarding the situation. I'll make this very clear here. Had I done anything wrong in that situation, I would admit to it without hesitation. However, I was completely innocent and undeserving of such poor treatment, which is nice to know I have support to this fact. I'll continue explaining the case here... The next morning, yesterday/Friday, the CM calls me on my smartphone. I answered, I spoke "hello", to which she condescendingly replies, "So, are you feeling better?". I replied "I never said I wasn't feeling good, especially if you are referring to last night, in which I never said I wasn't feeling good, ill, or anything relating to my health outside of my needs at Mindful, and by the way, this is a very degrading way of turning around a situation as if it were on me". I continued by telling her that I had done nothing wrong and continued being respectful as I've always been towards them, by my not complaining in the dispensary, not adding stress to their other customers around an explanation of something that while genuine, true, and factual in my defense, would still make for an uncomfortable experience for other customers to hear, which is why I spoke up only outside the car, not inside their place of business. I never even got loud, nor certainly yelled either. However, I'd say I got strick in my defense, which while was completely in my right, still likely would have been unwanted by other customers. I respect that of businesses, as I did of Mindful. Yet, the CM didn't really listen/take-in any of that, but rather was calling to defend the AGM, even though at least the defense of her was tame in contrast to what happened next. Since she didn't get anywhere with me, she hung up and I tried to relax by watching tv and attempting to put this aside by thinking of good things, such as the dinner at our favorite steakhouse after the Mindful situation. But then... the General Manager called... The GM is the single worst person I have ever encountered in a place of business where there are customers shopping in on a routine basis. Prior to yesterday, I thought he was a fairly nice guy, and regardless of what I think of him now, he has a really nice dog who seems to be at Mindful often. While I'm not sure whether or not the dog is hypo-allergenic, which may be an issue for those with allergies shopping there - I think most dogs are allowed in at Mindful, to those who love dogs - like me, will find that aspect of Mindful a good thing. The GM's dog is very well trained/behaved, and is friendly, but not at all aggressive. The CM even had her dog with her there that night (I think was her dog, not positive though) and was a very cute. nice dog too. Anyways, I figured to add something positive to what I'm about to write that is really bad, very stressful information. Just be careful of going to Mindful if you have allergies to dogs. Besides that though, no other worries needed regarding the dogs there. So, the GM started the conversation, or actually more like listening to a drill sargent, Which speaking of drill sargents, if you are reading this, GM, you cannot have your way trying to hurt me as you did with your words and think that I won't talk about it to everyone I can. You tried to victimize me by your attitude and treatment just because you feel like you are a superior being as a man who has to seek defensive action against those you perceive are lesser so you can be seen as a defender of your female employees, who some (certainly not all) might see as a way to do as they please at your establishment towards customers, because they know you will not treat any situation with impartiality against them. Here's what happened in the call, for those of you reading this. The GM called me and started yelling about how I need to listen to him and telling me, actually pretending to teach/order me how to have a conversation, by telling me I'm only going to get to talk when he says I can talk, and that I need to be quiet elsewise. This certainly is not how a business person talks with a customer, even a patient. He kept telling me how this was my fault what happened that night, because according to the AGM, I didn't make "eye contact" with her. This despite her not looking at me most of the time, and often her walking away to discuss with the PS and the other customer. So going on here with the call... The GM does begin to lessen the blame on me after I defended myself many times to things he really couldn't argue about logically, especially after he had to admit being wrong when he accused me of never being complimentary of the staff at Mindful, which he said after I spoke for five minutes complimenting three of their employees for nearly a half dozen different things they have done nice for me there. That, along with my logical explanation of the situation, seemed to have caused his reasoning of lessening the blame on me by half. He then kept saying how I need to accept half of the blame for it, otherwise he wasn't going to be able to "help me", with him stating that in all situations, every single one where there is a communication issue, as he called it, every one of them results in blame for both parties. He was not even going to consider here that there was a serious problem involving one of his staff, who for whatever reason decided to take this behavior towards one of their customers/"patients". Now, I really do not know for sure why the AGM did this, but the GM did give me a very strong possibility for it, without ever relating this to what could have been the reason for it otherwise. The GM said to me a few times in the phone call, to which he ended hanging up on me, telling me that I supposedly spend an hour every time I go there, whereas other customers only take about 10 minutes - maximum. He did tell me that they don't mind spending that time helping me, but then he never told me why he is mentioning that to begin with. Never did he have an explanation for why it was something to tell me about that. Besides, its not even true, the part about me, at least. Perhaps most customers do only spend 10 minutes maximum at Mindful, but whats that really to me? Is he trying to tell me to be there less time? He never mentioned the amount of visits. Anyways, the truth is that at most, I'm only at Mindful for 30, maybe 40 minutes. At most, it takes 5 minutes to wheel me in, and 5 minutes to roll me out. So the actual time spent in-store is only 20 to 30 minutes. I asked the GM several times to state whether or not his employees are actually complaining about this, which despite his avoidance in answering me a few times I asked, he then did finally admit to me they never did complain about that. I'm curious if the real issue isn't so much my in-store time, but regarding the wheelchair they have in-store, as it is physically challenging for them to transport up the ramp, and since I was visiting the store about once a week, perhaps that was getting to them. Maybe while most of the staff may not put the blame on me, maybe its being directed towards the GM who isn't admitting to it, yet after my questioning about the product to the AGM that night may have given her these thoughts to where her frustration got her not to give me the support, and resulted further in worse acts of ignorance to happen that night. That is the most I can figure of the situation. Well, I have since switched dispensaries, which I'm going to the other one for the first time, on Monday. Again, please do not take this as a general judgment against Mindful, but for consideration purposes only. If you already are happy at Mindful, that is great, and hopefully everything will continue being well for you there. Same to people looking into Mindful, whatever you decide, even if its to be a customer there too. If you choose against Mindful, I really can't make any recommendations at the moment, because right now I really don't know where would be the best alternative. I'm taking it cautiously at this point, especially since I'm pretty surprised a few Marijuana advocates could be so nasty towards me.

Best dispensary I have visited so far out of 6. I met most of the staff and they are all knowledgeable and genuine. Every time I walk in they ask if I would like a bottle of water, coffee or tea. Even my dog gets a treat!
They always have everything I need and if im looking for something they don't usually carry then they place an order! Feels like visiting a friends house. THANKS MINDFUL!

After a VERY thorough search for the best selection AND price in Illinois since medical cannabis has been legalized and Mindful has taken 1st place!!! Problem is your nearest store is over 2 hours away from me! I’d do anything to get one of your stores in central Illinois! Congratulations for being the best and for discounting this for the vets and disabled! Many dispensaries made that promise yet ended up only offering it to the vets! ALL disabled need the price break but I’ve noticed many vets getting the discount that are not disabled at all! Many even work! The disabled have it just as bad if not worse. Nice to finally find a dispensary that cares for us all! No disrespect to our vets BTW! Thanks guys and good luck with your future business adventures!
