Late in 1994, in a Staten Island grow room, a grower known as AJ turned up an accidental Chem 91 cross and called it Diesel. Friends in Albany added "The Sour," and by the late 1990s East Coast Sour Diesel was the connoisseur's strain of choice in New York City, fetching prices the market had never seen. The name is the nose: sharp fuel, a sour chemical edge and a skunky backbone. Its effects are commonly described as fast-arriving, energizing and talkative - a dreamy, cerebral sativa lift. Live resin is butane-extracted from fresh-frozen plants rather than dried and cured flower. More than three decades on, Sour Diesel is still the original that a whole family of fuel-forward cuts has tried to copy. About NEXT: NEXT is the brand of Next Extracts LLC, a Rochester company formed in 2023 that holds both a processor and a distributor licence from the state's Office of Cannabis Management. The state registers it as a minority-owned business.
