The peanut butter cup was worked out in a Pennsylvania basement in 1928, and the form has barely moved since. Everything after that has been an argument about ratio. The filling runs dense - ground peanuts and peanut oil, lightly sweetened, salted enough to keep the chocolate from going flat. Two chocolates go into it: a cocoa butter chocolate with chocolate liquor and milk, and a coating built on palm kernel and coconut fats. One melts, one holds its shape, so the cup keeps a clean edge and still gives way. Contains milk, soy and peanuts, and made in a facility that also processes eggs, tree nuts and wheat.
