His Wrap and Rake Series is a popular surface decoration technique in lampworking and glassblowing where he wraps molten color stringers around a base glass tube and then drags a tool or rod through the hot lines to create distinct, feathered, or combed patterns. What is Lampwork Glass: Lampwork glass is made using an ancient glassworking technique (also called flameworking or torchworking) where an artist uses a gas-fueled torch to melt solid rods and tubes of glass. Once the glass reaches a molten state, it is shaped and wrapped using gravity, hand tools, and specialized heat-resistant mandrels. Because this technique involves building objects directly in a torch flame, it allows for incredibly intricate and colorful creations that are difficult to achieve in standard furnace glassblowing.
