## Petra - Saigon Cinnamon - Sugar Free (1:1 THC/CBD) - Mints - 100mg Petra Saigon Cinnamon is a sugar-free cannabis mint from Kiva Confections with THC and CBD in equal measure: 2.5mg of each per mint, 40 mints to a pack, 100mg of each in all. Kiva's own product page calls the flavor Cinnamon CBD 1:1 and lists Saigon cinnamon among the ingredients; our menu, like several California retailers, uses the Saigon name. Kiva names no strain and assigns no strain type; our menu files it as a hybrid. The rule worth remembering is Kiva's: one mint, then a two-hour wait before the next. ### Quick Specs | | | |---|---| | **Type** | Hybrid on our menu; Kiva and Petra's Weedmaps listing give no indica, sativa or hybrid label | | **Format** | Sugar-free pressed mint, 40 per pack, 0.75g each; 2.5mg THC and 2.5mg CBD per mint | | **Onset** | 30 minutes to 2 hours is typical for edibles; Kiva says allow two hours for the full effect | | **Duration** | About 6-8 hours is typical for edibles; Kiva has not published a figure | | **Best Time** | Afternoon or evening at home | ### Genetics & Lineage There is no strain to trace. Kiva's label says only cannabis extract, naming no cultivar or source flower, so our hybrid tag is a catalog convention, not a claim about the plant. The line itself has a history. Kristi and Scott Palmer started Kiva in a home kitchen in 2010, per the company, and the Sacramento News & Review called Petra its first confection that was not chocolate. Kiva's Massachusetts site dates Petra to 2015; a 2021 Prepared Foods profile says 2016 and reports that Kiva chose the 2.5mg dose deliberately. By 2022 the magazine listed this Cinnamon CBD mint beside Moroccan Mint, Tart Cherry and Pineapple, and Kristi Palmer said it matters that "Petra always stays close to its low-dose roots." ### Flavor & Aroma Kiva's flavor note lists sweetness, spice and a mild burn, and the label backs it up: Saigon cinnamon is the third ingredient, after xylitol and dextrin, with natural cinnamon flavor and stevia further down. Saigon cinnamon is Cinnamomum loureiroi, also sold as Vietnamese cassia. It grows well north of the city it is named for; Gernot Katzer's spice reference says the name comes from Saigon's role as a trading port. Wikipedia describes a cassia-like taste with a fuller, more complex aroma, and Katzer finds its bark considerably richer in essential oil, mostly cinnamaldehyde, than other cinnamons. Kiva has not published a terpene profile for the mint. ### Effects Kiva's copy promises warmth and a relaxed mood, and in the same breath bills the mints as a pick-me-up. Kristi Palmer has pitched Petra as an entry-level edible. One mint holds a quarter of the 10mg THC that California allows in a single edible serving. The CBD matches the THC by weight; Kiva calls the mix a balance. Reviews of this flavor are scarce. Writing about the THC-only Petra flavors, a Sacramento News & Review critic described a hazy, mild buzz after a couple of mints. ### Best For - **First edibles:** 2.5mg THC a mint, a dose Kiva has kept low on purpose - **Fine-tuning:** one mint is an easy unit to count and add - **Cinnamon fans:** Saigon cinnamon is right on the label - **Sugar-free shoppers:** xylitol and stevia, with zero grams of sugar per Kiva Not for: anyone after a fast or strong effect, or people who dislike hot cinnamon. ### Pairings Food: a roast pork banh mi from Saigon Sandwich at 560 Larkin Street, which The Infatuation calls the best in the city, or pho on the same Little Saigon blocks, since Vietnamese cinnamon is a key spice in pho broth. Music: Temple (2020) by Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, the San Francisco songwriter's record about her Vietnamese heritage and refugee parents. Activity: walk south on Larkin to the Asian Art Museum, whose Southeast Asia galleries hold Vietnamese ceramics from the 14th to 16th centuries, per the museum. Save the mint for home; California allows cannabis use on private property, not in public. ### Extraction Kiva's label says cannabis extract, and that is all it has published for Petra: no extraction method, oil type or source flower. Kiva's other lines do not settle it. A 2019 Kiva page credits cold water hash for its chocolate, and Lost Farm uses strain-specific live resin and live rosin, but Kiva makes neither claim for Petra. The format is better documented. GreenState reported in 2018 that Petra mints are pressed into shape from a powder, which Kiva's marketing manager at the time credited for consistent dosing. In 2022 Kristi Palmer told Prepared Foods that dialing in the pill press decides both a mint's hardness and the accuracy of its dose. ### Dosing **New to it:** one mint, 2.5mg THC and 2.5mg CBD, then the full two hours Kiva asks for. Take it at home with nowhere to drive. **Regular user:** two mints for 5mg THC, and the same two-hour wait before a third. **Heavy tolerance:** four mints make 10mg THC, the largest single edible serving California allows. Climb one mint at a time; the whole pack holds 100mg. ### Storage Keep the pack closed, dry and at room temperature, away from sun and heat. Store it out of reach of children and pets: the FDA warns that xylitol, the main sweetener here, can be poisonous to dogs. --- ### Similar Products - **Petra Moroccan Mint (Sugar Free) 100mg:** the same 40-mint, 2.5mg pack and sweeteners, flavored with matcha and peppermint, THC only - **Petra Tart Cherry (Sugar Free) 100mg:** the same pack size and THC dose, with fruit in place of spice - **Kiva Churro Milk Chocolate Bar 100mg:** Saigon cinnamon again, in a cinnamon-sugar milk chocolate bar of twenty 5mg pieces, per Kiva - **Camino Mango Serenity 'Balance' Gummies 1:1 100mg:** Kiva's Camino line at the same 1:1 ratio, with 5mg THC and 5mg CBD per gummy --- ### FAQ **Is it called Saigon Cinnamon or Cinnamon?** Both. Kiva's product page says Cinnamon CBD 1:1, with Saigon cinnamon in the ingredients, while Kiva copy on some retailer menus calls it Saigon Cinnamon Petra. **How much THC and CBD is in each mint?** 2.5mg of each, for 100mg of each in the 40-mint pack. **How long does a Petra mint take to work?** Kiva says to start with one mint and wait two hours for the full effect before taking another. **Is it sugar free?** Yes. Kiva sweetens it with xylitol and stevia and lists zero grams of sugar. **Is it an indica, sativa or hybrid?** Kiva labels it none of the three and names no strain. Our menu files it as a hybrid. **Is it vegan?** Kiva calls it plant-based. Its FAQ says all Kiva products are made in a facility that also processes milk, nuts, soy and gluten. **Who makes Petra?** Kiva Confections, founded in 2010 by Kristi and Scott Palmer. GreenState reported in 2018 that the line is named for the city of Petra in Jordan. **Where can I buy Petra Saigon Cinnamon mints in San Francisco?** At Gemme Verdi, 899 Columbus Ave in North Beach.
