Her love for food took her from culinary school to the kitchens of Michelin-starred restaurants and ultimately to the role of executive chef at the Brazilian Embassy. For nearly five years, she brought the soul of her homeland to Washington, DC. Her journey was one of reinvention—transforming opportunities into artistry.

Joe, on the other hand, grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Penn State, where his connection to cannabis ran deep. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles for a career in finance, but cannabis remained his true passion. In 2011, he applied for a dispensary license in DC, only to be denied because of a prior felony cannabis conviction. The same plant that had shaped his life was now the reason he couldn’t legally participate in the industry. For years, he waited and watched as others entered a space, he had long dreamed of joining.

Then everything changed. When DC lifted the cap on dispensary licenses and prioritized social equity applicants—those impacted by the War on Drugs—Joe’s lived experience became a gateway, not a wall. And it was Danila, with her eye for excellence and heart for hospitality, who stood by him to seize that moment.

FireTuned was born—not just from ambition, but from resilience. Together, they poured their energy into building something extraordinary in Dupont Circle. They faced setbacks—like losing the ability to manufacture at their location after a year of planning and investment. But they didn’t break. They pivoted. They stayed true to their vision.
