I went into DC Collective as a first time patient on Thursday, July 6th. I usually go to another club which is way closer to my house, but DC Collective is insanely close to my new job, so I stopped in after work one day to see what they were about. We all know the routine of the first time patient. I was given my paperwork, and handed a ticket to give the budtender to indicate that it was my first visit. Quick and painless, friendly reception staff. Cool atmosphere.
I walk into the medicine room, and the dude who helped me, before greeting me or welcoming me, notices that I'm wearing a shirt for the "other" club. He asks if I want to replace it. I say, "sure", thinking this dude was going to give me a DC Collective shirt. He asks what color I want (black) and size (large), and goes off into the back.... He emerges a few minutes later with a white shirt, and hands it to me. Before I grab it, he says, "you're gonna have to take that shirt off, and we have to throw it away". Okay, what? I say "are you serious?", and he goes, "Absolutely, especially *that* club". I ask again, completely dumbfounded, truly not knowing if the dude was pulling my leg (he was also extremely unfriendly, and very unlikable from the instant we started talking. Dude didn't tell me about the medication selection, or anything. He IMMEDIATELY went to my shirt), and another budtender confirms that I must remove my shirt, in from of probably 15 other people, before I can accept their shirt that wasn't in the color that I asked for (no black shirts apparently).
Dudes, let me just say that I was mortified. Hindsight is always 20/20, and if I could somehow go back in time, I would have declined his shirt, and asked to talk to the manager right then. But, instead, since I felt bullied and peer-pressured (medication room full of patients, and other budtenders, security, cameras, etc.), I did what this dude asked, and removed my shirt. Amazingly, he let me go through with it, and didn't stop and say, "Haha, just kidding, dawg". He actually made me get half naked. Now, I have a MASSIVE scar on my chest from an open heart surgery that I had 17 years ago. I have some slight body issues, and certainly don't remove my clothes in public. That I was even ASKED to do this is unbelievable. That I actually went through with it, is even more so.
So, I've got their shirt on, and I'm kind of bummed that they're throwing the shirt that I've had for three years away (again, hindsight is 20/20. Thinking back I want to strangle that smug prick). I get my shit, and I leave. Oh, and I didn't spend enough to qualify for their first time patient giveaway, but they let me keep the ticket on my record for my next visit. Get in the car, drive away.
I let that sit for over a week. I replayed in my mind over and over. I know it sounds dramatic, but I use marijuana to cope with social anxiety, stress, and a host of other disorders. To be made to feel THAT uncomfortable in a place that should be doing the opposite was too much for me to handle. I returned to DC Collective on Friday, July 14th after work, and asked to speak to a manager. The dude who helped me initially was there, and I was FUMING at this point. The manager comes out, and she is immediately a very sweet, and helpful person. She was well spoken, and empathetic to my situation.
At first she and I didn't see eye to eye, because I was at times irrational, and wouldn't let her speak. Security intervened (as they should have), but I retained my composure, and never got out of line, (although I did use some colorful language which I regret). She didn't know how she could remedy the situation other than offer her deepest apologies, which I begrudgingly accepted after a few minutes of arguing in the middle of the medicine room. She suggested that we talk somewhere more private, so we went into the lobby. Another employee had overheard our conversation, and came over to discuss the situation with us. After about 10 minutes we were able to come to a sincere understanding, and I felt that that they truly felt that their actions were wrong.
The staff mentioned that they had been discussing this shirt "tradition" as recently as that morning, and were working towards phasing it out entirely (I'm wondering if a female would have been asked to remove her shirt...). We came to a conclusion, shook hands, and I felt that the situation was amicably resolved, and my issue had been heard, and truly addressed. They assured me that that practice would end, and they would have a staffwide meeting to discuss it.
I was ready to walk out the door, and call it a day with DC Collective, but the two employees really wanted to make sure that my issue was resolved. They offered me two BLACK shirts (Yay!), and I was given some medication (they also explained how their coloring system works, finally, haha) on the house. This was above and beyond what I expected, and I was truly humbled by the gesture. When you have a face to face conversation and truly look a person in the eye, you can see sincerity, and I saw it in both or their eyes. They felt for me, and wanted to make me feel better. And, I have to admit, talking it out with them, and opening up about the experience made DC Collective infinitely more human to me. They have good employees working there, we just got off on the wrong foot. I WILL be going back into DC Collective, because they deserve a second chance.
Prior to this experience, I had only heard positive things about them, and am sure that I'm in the minority of people who felt shamed and humiliated for wearing a competitors shirt. While the humiliation can never be erased, being heard, and understood made me feel a ton better.
Now, as for the medication, I was given some Cake Batter (Indica), and it knocked my socks off. I can't thank them enough for their kindness, after such a miserable first experience. This place is okay by me.

I joined the Collective 16 days ago. I've been back four or five times.
Everything, from the super friendly, super efficient Checkin Desk, (hi Yvette! You are a Pleasure; apologies to the other women as I don't know their names YET!) to the Security Team, to the Excellent wellspoken
Budtenders, to the smiling Cashier, all has remained consistent and top notch
All the above are as important to me as the flower, which in my estimation is the best in LA. Not just the Valley. I'm serious. Delicious, Potent, perfectly cured,
AND nicely priced. Perfect for those on a budget.
As a Senior I appreciate the way I'm treated, at D. C. and that is with respect. I see many other people in my age range and I understand why they belong to D. C.
Anyway I had to let you all know. I'm totally satisfied and then some.
