Some claim a trainwreck occurred near where it was first bred and cultivated, forcing the growers to get rid of their crops quickly. It is thought this is where the name Trainwreck originated. Its origins are a mixture of landrace cannabis strains like Thai and Mexican sativas and Afghani indicas. It is an old strain, reaching back to the 1970s, and has an aura of mystery. It gets its sweet turpentine smell from high levels of Terpinolene which has a strong tranquilizing effect. It has a sweet lemon and spicy pine aroma.
