As of February 2020, the DHSS has issued cards to more than 30,000 patients, 840 caregivers, and nearly 10,000 cultivators.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wm-article-table-of-contents-header\" id=\"missouri-qualifying-conditions\">\n\tMissouri qualifying conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The DHSS website maintains an updated list of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.mo.gov\/safety\/medical-marijuana\/how-to-apply.php#patientinfo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">qualifying conditions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Here are the most common that are eligible for medical cannabis use:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cancer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Epilepsy.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Glaucoma.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Intractable migraines unresponsive to other treatment.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A chronic medical condition that causes severe, persistent pain or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson's disease, and Tourette's syndrome.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress order if diagnosed by a state-licensed psychiatrist.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Human immunodeficiency virus or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV\/AIDS).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A terminal illness.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wm-article-table-of-contents-header\" id=\"applying-for-a-medical-marijuana-id-in-missouri\">\n\tApplying for a medical marijuana ID in Missouri<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Patients must first visit a licensed physician or osteopath and obtain a physician certification. Patients younger than 18 years of age require the written consent of their parent or guardian to qualify.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Patients must then apply for an identification card via the DHSS' secure <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.mo.gov\/safety\/medical-marijuana\/how-to-apply-pi.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online registry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The patients must submit the following for consideration:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A completed application.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Proof of Missouri residency.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A completed and signed physician's recommendation, received no more than 30 days prior.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A clear, color photo of the patient's face taken within the last three months.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A $25 application fee.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For minors, proof of parental\/legal guardian consent.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An indication that the patient is seeking authority to cultivate medical marijuana, if applicable (plus an additional $100 fee).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the patient wishes to designate a caregiver, a patient authorization form that names the designated individual. If two caregivers are designated, the patient must submit a form for each person.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The DHSS will approve or deny an application within 30 days of receipt. Patients can then visit the DHSS <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.mo.gov\/safety\/medical-marijuana\/pdf\/patient-id-card-instructions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to download a copy of their medical marijuana ID card. The DHSS will not provide physical cards for patients and caregivers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Medical marijuana ID cards expire precisely one year after their issuance date.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wm-article-table-of-contents-header\" id=\"appointing-a-caregiver\">\n\tAppointing a caregiver <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A caregiver is an individual appointed to assist a qualified patient in his or her use of medical cannabis. Caregivers must be:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over twenty-one (21) years of age.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Able to be responsible for the well-being of a patient.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Designated on the patient's primary caregiver application for an identification card or in other written notification to the DHSS.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Caregivers must complete an application through the DHSS website, including the following:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Complete identification information.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Patient information.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A clear, color photo of the caregiver's face taken within the last three months.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A $25 application fee.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indication as to whether the caregiver wishes to cultivate medical marijuana on behalf of their patient (plus an additional $100 if they do).<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Per Missouri law, a medical marijuana caregiver cannot serve more than three patients. Caregivers can cultivate cannabis on behalf of their patient(s), but may not do so if the patient has a cultivator license.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wm-article-table-of-contents-header\" id=\"purchasing-medical-marijuana-in-missouri\">\n\tPurchasing medical marijuana in Missouri<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In January 2020, the DHSS granted 192 awardees licenses to open and operate medical marijuana dispensaries. Neither the Department or any licensee has announced an opening date, but online sources expect medical marijuana dispensaries to begin operations mid-year 2020.
