Tea drinkers may also have experienced the pleasant scent of terpineol through lapsang souchong tea that emits a pine smoke aroma. You may have tasted terpineol too since it is used as a flavoring agent in baked goods and condiments. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wm-article-table-of-contents-header\" id=\"therapeutic-properties-of-terpineol\">\n\tTherapeutic properties of terpineol<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terpineol, specifically a-terpineol, has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor and antimicrobial properties. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-anti-inflammatory\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Anti-inflammatory<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The terpene has shown anti-inflammatory qualities in several scientific studies, including one published in 2007 in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/17867636\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and another published in 2010 in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22380944\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basic &amp; Clinical Pharmacology &amp; Toxicology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The latter study yielded encouraging results for a-terpineol's potential as a component of new medications to treat painful and\/or inflammatory diseases. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-antioxidant\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Antioxidant<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers conducted comparative tests on the antioxidant effects of a-terpineol and two other terpenes: carvone and perillyl alcohol. The results, published in 2011 in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21540069\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food and Chemical Toxicology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, indicated that a-terpineol had the strongest antioxidant effect, comparable to commercial antioxidants. The scientists who led the study found the outcome to be encouraging for future studies regarding the possibility of a-terpineol fighting certain types of cancer, notably breast cancer and chronic myeloid leukemia. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-antitumor\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Antitumor<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A-terpineol's potential effectiveness against cancer was also explored in a 2010 study published in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/20651334\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anticancer Research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The results of the study suggested that a-terpineol inhibited the growth of in vitro cancerous tumor cells, especially those of small cell lung carcinoma. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-antimicrobial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Antimicrobial<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 2012 study published in the journal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22537719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anaerobe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that a-terpineol exhibited strong antimicrobial activity against oral bacteria. Researchers recommended low levels of a-terpineol in conjunction with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weedmaps.com\/learn\/dictionary\/linalool\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">linalool<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be incorporated into toothpaste or gargling solutions. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wm-article-table-of-contents-header\" id=\"the-role-of-terpineol-in-cannabis\">\n\tThe role of terpineol in cannabis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weedmaps.com\/strains\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cannabis varieties<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that contain high levels of terpineol are White Widow, Jack Herer, OG Kush and Girl Scout Cookies.
