We know that you are a real person, a real patient, a human being. We care about you as a person! We are a real doctor's office with friendly staff, and we are here for you.

Requirements for a recommendation:
*You must have a valid California Identification card / CA Drivers License.
*You must have a disorder that might be alleviated with cannabis.
*You must understand the risks and benefits of using medical cannabis.
*Of course, recommendations are given at the sole discretion of the physician.
*There is no risk for you: If you don't get approved, you don't pay!*

We have NO HIDDEN FEES.

Watch out! What patients are saying about other clinics:
1. The doctor is not really a doctor! Or his license is not active! Make sure you check the medical board to verify his license. You can verify ours by searching for "Jose Pilpa" here: https://www.breeze.ca.gov/datamart/searchByName.do
2. Other clinics treat you like a "cattle call", not a human being with real needs.
3. Other clinics advertise a lower fee that's only for a 3 month approval. Once they get you in, they try to "upsell" you on a 1 year approval. This is BOGUS BECAUSE: This makes no sense whatsoever. The approval is based on your disorder, not how much you pay!
4. Other clinics will try to "upsell" you on a "medical marijuana card". This is BOGUS BECAUSE: In 2003, Senate Bill 420 required that the state of California create a program to track patients and caregivers using medical marijuana. That program is now called the Medical Marijuana Program, or MMP. You must go to your county office and fill out the required paperwork, pay a fee ($153 in LA County, with a 50% discount for Medi-Cal patients), and then the county will issue you a REAL MMIC (Medical Marijuana Identification Card.) THAT is the real ID card, which can ONLY be issued by the County office. ID cards "issued" by the doctor's office are the same as a letter, but it's just on a smaller piece of paper. All you need is your written letter to appease law enforcement. (There are rules and risks involved, of course, and we will go over all of it in detail with you when you come in.)

About Dr. Jose Pilpa, MD:
Dr. Pilpa has been practicing medicine since 1977, and is licensed to practice medicine in the state of California. He is a Board Certified Family Physician, certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

About Medical Marijuana:
Medical Cannabis has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments. The best part is that the side effect profile is excellent! Did you know that about 120 people die every day from a drug overdose?! Both prescription drugs, like Xanax, Norco, Oxycodone, and Ambien; and non-prescription drugs like heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines. On the other hand, there have been about 300 POSSIBLE deaths related to cannabis in the past 15 years! We will discuss the side effects of cannabis with you in the office, and answer all of your questions.

Why Self-Treat Illegally?
*Are you treating your own conditions with marijuana? Why continue to treat yourself illegally? If you have a medical condition, and cannabis helps with it, then it's time to take the next step: come in to see a licensed physician and get a recommendation for medical marijuana. That way:
*You don't have to worry about California law enforcement.
*You can get the medicine you need, legally.
*You can treat your condition consistently without needing other medications that have more dangerous side effects.
*You can understand the actual risks and benefits of using medical marijuana, and you can make an informed decision under the supervision of your physician!

Some treatable conditions include:
Chronic Insomnia
Chronic Pain
Fibromyalgia!
Lower back pain
Pain from Scoliosis
Muscle spasms
Sciatica
Pain from pinched nerves
Herpetic Neuralgia (The shooting nerve pains from Shingles)
Rheumatoid arthritis
Seizures!
Anxiety
Stress
Panic Disorder
Depression
Bipolar Disorder
PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
ADD/ADHD
HIV/AIDS Wasting Syndrome
Anorexia
Bolemia
Cancer- Wasting, Chronic Pain, Appettite Stimulant
Glaucoma
Migraine Headaches
Chronic Tension Headaches
Severe Nausea

[Please note that medical marijuana does have certain side effects that can worsen some mental disorders. We are not recommending that you self-treat without the supervision of an experienced physician who can evaluate whether cannabis is a viable option, can help treat your disorder appropriately and can monitor your progress.]

How it works:
1. When you first come in, you will be greeted by our friendly staff. They will check you in and have you fill out standard forms.
2. Once you finish with your forms, we will take you back to get your heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory rate (vital signs).
3. You will then have your office visit with Dr. Pilpa. The visit time will depend upon your unique situation.
4. After the visit, if you are approved, you will immediately receive your letter of recommendation with your name and ID card printed on it, signed, stamped and sealed!
That's it! The whole process should be much less than 30 minutes.

Yes, according to California law. In 1996, Californians passed Proposition 215 (The Compassionate Use Act) which protects patients, physicians, and primary caregivers who assist patients in the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

How can someone verify that my letter of recommendation is authentic?
With our free, 24/7 online verification system, which is HIPAA compliant and always available.

Can a PA (Physician Assisstant) or NP (Nurse Practitioner) give a recommendation?
No. In the state of California, only a physician can approve or recommend medical marijuana to a patient. Every state has there own regulation.

Do you have a real "FNP" (fictitious name permit)?

No. According to the medical board of California, it is up to the discretion of the physician to recommend or approve marijuana for medical reasons, based on his medical professional judgement.

Is my information stored somewhere that any agency can find it?
Absolutely not. Your information is stored on the highest security medical records software that is 100% confidential and 100% secure. NOBODY has access to any of your information, including your diagnosis or recommendation status, unless you approve them to. The only time this would be is if you would like a dispensary to check on your approval status. If so, you can show them your recommendation letter, and they can look it up on our 24 hour verification system. This will ONLY show if you are approved or not; it will NOT show any other information, like your diagnosis, date of birth, address, or phone number.

If a government agency asks for my records, what happens?
First, we contact you and explain any documents that we have received from them. Then, after discussing it with you, we only give the information that is the MINIMUM amount and that is absolutely required by law. For example, we may say that we gave an approval without saying what the diagnosis is. We do everything we can to absolutely protect your privacy as required by our medical ethics and by HIPAA laws.

Does marijuana use lead to other drug use?
This is a controversial issue without a clear answer. Evidence shows that in people who start using marijuana before age 18, there is a higher risk of using other illegal drugs. We do not recommend the use of medical cannabis in persons under 18 without very careful and extensive consideration and supervision.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! It needs more than 5 stars !

Everyone was nice and professional. Very little wait time. There was an ACTUAL doctor here. The doctor was very knowledgeable, he was patient and answered all my questions. He made sure my mother and I knew different methods for anxiety patients, and it wasn't rushed at all. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Everyone who works here is well informed and respectful. The doctors name is at the door, no scammers here. You will not regret coming here. Definitely coming back here for my renewal.

Absolutely Amazing!

Great atmosphere! Dr. Pilpa is extremely informative! I really appreciate that he gives recommendations for other treatments and tips for health that didn't involve weed. I lobe the guy and his staff. I'll definitely encourage others to visit.

Pleasant Professional Visit

I recently visited Dr. Pilpa's office to renew my medical marijuana recommendation. I arranged an appointment ahead of time via telephone. I arrived 15 minutes early and was requested to fill out the usual personal and medical history forms requested when seeing a real medical doctor! Once completed with the paperwork, I was ushered back to an examination room. The nurse took my vital signs. After a short wait, Dr. Pilpa entered and introduced himself. He reviewed my medical history, and took a further oral medical history including my use of marijuana. Then he performed a short physical evaluation while discussing the benefits of medical marijuana for my medical conditions. Dr. Pilpa spent about 10 minutes total time with me, explained the benefits and potential negative effects of medical marijuana, and issued my renewal. Total cost, $40.00 (no upsell). The staff issued my new recommendation and I was on my way. Total time about 40 minutes. I would highly recommend Dr. Pilpa and the Lower Azusa Medical Clinic.

CALIFORNIA DOCTOR DISCLAIMER REQUIREMENT

NOTICE TO CONSUMERS: The Compassionate Use Act of 1996 ensures that seriously ill Californians have the right to obtain and use cannabis for medical purposes where medical use is deemed appropriate and has been recommended by a physician who has determined that the person’s health would benefit from the use of medical cannabis. Recommendations must come from an attending physician as defined in Section 11362.7 of the Health and Safety Code. Cannabis is a Schedule I drug according to the federal Controlled Substances Act. Activity related to cannabis use is subject to federal prosecution, regardless of the protections provided by state law.
