My dad and I nerd out and visit many many dispensaries throughout the week. We love the experience and talking to staff members and really enjoying the freedom of MMJ. Well we walked in JP the other day and dealt with a Spanish woman who said about 3 words the entire time we were there. Didn't even tell us what they had, what they were about, anything. Literally stood there while we picked out concentrated and didn't say anything! Very very bad customer service. Will not be going back.

Then I was treated to a great deal on top shelf bud like golden goat and kandy lush. The candy bar was fantastic also. Name: Grape Ape
Type: Hybrid (indica dominant)
Genetics: Skunk #1 x Afghani
Stemming from legendary California genetics, the Grape Ape strain is a heavily indica-dominant hybrid (90% indica, 10% sativa). The strain is often celebrated for its purple hue and its effectiveness in treating chronic pain and insomnia. Consisting of mainly Afghani genetics, selectively bred for its incredible purple color and grape flavor. The presence of sativa genetics is only mildly apparent to the smoker, though it is somewhat more obvious to the grower.
It's possibly a sister phenotype of the Granddaddy Purple strain and several of the other popular purple strains that have floated around California for the better part of 15 years now. Of these, Grape Ape is one of the most famous and beloved. The strain's smooth and relatively clearheaded effects distinguish it from other more heavy-hitting members of the purple family, and make it a more versatile choice for daytime use.
Looks and Smell
Wide purple leaves cover the Grape Ape marijuana plant, surrounding some of the world's most unique buds. The leaves, stems, stalks, and buds are coated with a thick layer of THC crystals. The nugs, when cared for properly, are typical indica structure--tight and dense, like little Christmas trees. When hitting the sunlight, you can't help but notice these beautiful super sticky bad boys appear almost as if a tube of glitter was dropped on them.
As far as bag appeal goes, this batch of Grape Ape certainly did not disappoint. The buds were a beautiful mix of purple and deep green. Interestingly enough, each individual nug seemed to have its own unique color. Grape Ape has a sweet but still musky scent which has strong notes of grape Kool-Aid with background hints of Nag Champa incense. From a distance or through the bag, it often has a skunky element to it, but the sweetness and grape qualities really start to become apparent once the buds are broken up.
Grape Ape starts off strongly with a package of eye and facial effects that signal the start of a rather potent experience. The early heady effects blend with a creeping body buzzing into a harmonious whole by 30-45 minutes, making Grape Ape feel like a true hybrid for the most part. It's a strain which is definitely relaxing, but also uplifts the mood and at times provides a slight burst of energy to start, simply because it makes the user feel good. As the strain progresses through, the more indica side of the effects start to dominate and the mindstate becomes more sedate and meditative.
It seems like it has been some time since I have reviewed a purple strain, and after experiencing this batch of Grape Ape, I will probably try and up my "workload" as far as purp strains are concerned. As with a lot of strains that have been around for a while, the exact origins of Grape Ape are somewhat muddied. However after much research it appears as though 90% of the cannabis community is in agreement of the Afghani x Skunk #1 lineage. There are a variety of purple strains that share similar qualities, and some believe them to be different expressions of the same genetics, while others see some additional sativa influence in Grape Ape that does not tend to exist in the GDP, Urkle, Mendo Purps, and other purple indica varieties.
Grape Ape needs moderate growing skills and can flourish in both hydro and soil mediums. The purple coloration comes out naturally, but is highly encourged by a cooler climate. The strain takes a bit longer to finish (up to 10 weeks) than some of its purple brethren, but the even dense yield and high THC content (usually around 18%-20%) make the extra time worth it in my opinion.
THIS WEEK TOKE AWARD GOES TO ALLEN AND THE OWNER RYAN!!
