The Lowdown on Glendale Cannabis Laws

Both medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in Glendale. Arizona was the second state to attempt the legalization of medical cannabis in 1996; while the ballot measure passed, it was rendered ineffective on a technicality. In November 2010 the state finally legalized medical marijuana, passing the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act by a slim 50.1% margin. In November 2020, it became the 15th state to legalize recreational cannabis when it passed the Smart and Safe Act. Medical marijuana is legal for patients of all ages with qualifying conditions. Recreational marijuana is legal for adults over the age of 21.

Recreational Cannabis Laws in Glendale

Glendale residents can:

  • Purchase, possess, and give away to an adult over the age of 21 up to 1 ounce (28 grams) of cannabis with no more than 5 grams in the form of concentrates from nonprofit state-licensed dispensaries

  • Purchase cannabis flower, extracts, edibles, topicals, salves, and capsules

Delivery of recreational cannabis products is not currently legal in Arizona.

Adults can grow up to six recreational plants at home; if there are two or more adults in the home, they can grow a maximum of 12 plants total. All plants must be grown out of public view.

Medical Cannabis Laws in Glendale

Medical marijuana can be purchased through a Glendale dispensary by patients who suffer from a state-approved debilitating medical condition. Patients can purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces (70 grams) in a 14-day period. Caregivers may purchase cannabis products for patients if the patient is unable to do so. Delivery of medical cannabis is legal as well.

Patients and caregivers may offer medical cannabis to another registered patient or designated caregiver as long as nothing of value is exchanged and possession limits are not exceeded.

Adults can grow up to 12 medical plants at home; if there are two or more adults in the home, they can grow a maximum of 12 plants total. All plants must be kept in an enclosed, locked container out of public view.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) recognizes out-of-state marijuana registration; visiting patients may not purchase cannabis from Arizona state-licensed dispensaries, but may possess 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of cannabis while in the state.

How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Glendale

All patients must register for their medical marijuana registry identification card with the ADHS and:

  • Provide a valid Arizona State driver’s license or State ID card

  • Designate a caretaker, if applicable

  • Request authorization for home cultivation, if possible

  • Pay the $150 registry identification card fee

Registry identification cards expire one year after the date of issue. Patients must apply for renewals at least 30 days before the card expires.

Minors under the age of 18 can also register on the site, and must meet the following requirements:
