The origins of this strain are somewhat shrouded in mystery, although popular legend states that it was a cross of Nepalese sativa and Thai sativa by a group of growers that met at Grateful Dead concert. Other rumors say that it is one of the parent strains of the legendary Sour Diesel, although if you keep digging you’ll find cannabis connoisseurs saying that Sour Diesel is a parent of Chemdawg... Regardless of the truth of the matter, we can say confidently that Chemdawg has been on the forefront of craft cannabis culture in the United States since the beginning, becoming a recognized strain early-on for its strong sedative high. The aroma and flavor of Chemdawg strikes strong notes of diesel, pepper and earth that are very easy to recognize once you’ve familiarized yourself with this strain. A brief word of caution - this strain is extremely potent and we’ve heard reports of seasoned stoners saying that Aurora Blaze’s Chemdwag was too strong for them. You’ve been warned!

Chemdog was created in the early 1990s in the parking lot of a Grateful Dead concert. Dead concerts had a reputation for being trade centers for cannabis cultivars, and during this particular show, a breeder named Chem purchased an ounce of Dogbud from fellow growers P-Bud and Joe Brand. The flower — which supposedly originated along the California-Oregon border — tasted so strongly of chemicals that Joe Brand nicknamed it Chem. Chem (the breeder) combined the two names, and Chemdog was the result.

Following the Grateful Dead tour, Chem popped Chemdog the seeds and created three phenotypes. The most famous was Chem 91, which became an instant success and served as the parent strain for some of the most popular cultivars of the past 25 years.

Chemdawg is a clone of Chem 91 produced by Humboldt Seed.
