California Alternative Caregivers (Pre-ICO)Medical Dispensaries / Venice/Marina Del Rey (46,490 hits)
Since its inception in 2005, CAC, the oldest legal co-op in the city of Los Angeles and a pre-ICO collective, has been a family collective and a safe haven. The comfortable, at home feeling is one of the many reasons our patients continue to return, recommending new patients along the way. Word of mouth has been our only means of advertising. We offer a unique line of Amsterdam strains grown from gold cup winning seeds from Amsterdam.
As a non-profit, California Alternative Caregivers' goal has always been to provide a safe, caring and quiet collective for our patients. We strive to provide the highest quality and safest organic alternatives to the dangerous side effects related to pharmaceuticals. Our selection of organic strains include kushes, pure sativas, pure indicas, and hybrids that are grown exclusively by our patients. Our large selection of edibles includes vegan, sugar free, gluten-free and tinctures (glycerin). The aim of our highly qualified volunteers is to educate our patients in the different medicinal effects of the strains, as well as edibles and smokeless vaporizing. We also help our patients find the most effective form of medicine for their individual needs. In addition to familiar strains, we also have medicine grown from Cannabis (Gold) cup winning strains imported from Amsterdam.First time patients must bring their original doctor's recommendation and a valid California photo ID (driver's license or identification card as issued by DMV). No exceptions.
Never a Bad Expirence
I've only had my club card for a year and a half and been to around 20 clubs, but I really love California Alternative Caregivers for a variety of reasons:
1. The atmosphere is much more intimate. I was almost taken back by the fact Jimmy remembered my name the second time I came in. I also like that that they only let two people at a time in. You aren't rushed or even dealing with that awkward "was I next or was he?"
2. Organized menu that they have on the wall with all the info you need. Instead of trying to keep with a guy rambling off the menu, I can see prices, types, and even a picture. The edibles are in the fridge for you to grab yourself and look at - I've always found it weird that edibles are normally hid behind the counters and you have to ask to see everything which usually pisses off a few budtenders for some reason.
3. Expertise - I like going in an telling Jimmy what I want. He EXPLAINS the difference, has that little booklet of tests to back it up and gives great recommendation. He won't give you a strain that will give you anxiety, but instead suggest something else that has the same type of kick without throwing you into a panic attack. And he is always pointing to top shelf but tells you some options and lets you know his honest opinion. It is a nice relief from budtenders that reccomend something "cause its good" and shove the jar up your nose.
4. Everything is sealed, ready to go. I like that this makes the whole transaction quick and easy - not that I'm ever in a rush to leave. But its nice having consistency in weights rather than getting a budtender giving you less because they are too high or whatnot.
The place has a great history, great staff (I've really only dealt with Jimmy & the front desk guys) and I love the fact that they are so professional - even going to the Amsterdam and all to get the best selection. And even cooler that you can get the seeds yourself - not much help to me though since I can barely keep a cactus alive.
And to the people blackmailing dispensaries for cheaper weed, get a job & a life. Dispensaries aren't whipping up weed in their magical caves for free. Its a business, not a charity and it might be possible that honey goes a lot farther than vinegar.
"Jill or Jillian"
What an awesome set up, and friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable staff! Product is exceptional, and pricing is really rather fair for it. I totally find the experience worth all of the research I did, and found the right place to go! I love the facts that I was presented with, and the approach of the staff! It was my first visit, and certainly will not be my last! I also appreciate the hours, since I work up the street and will have ease of access. Excited to have found such a fantastic spot to take my concerns, and walk out with complete answers.
Extremely pleased with the Romulan Kush. The prices are a tad bit high but i'm wiling to pay that with the bud being lab tested, mold free, etc.Overall a great strain with a nice cure and a good flush.Thank You!
Great staff but bad weed

Amazing knowledgable staff but amsterdam stuff smells good but is pretty much bunk. Very light and airy with no high or taste. Even the 56$ 8ts suck dilly
It’s no surprise that as we get closer to enforcement of the new Prop D ordinance we suddenly are under attack by friends of the many illegal collectives that surround us, it smacks of such desperation. I know it must be very hard to compete with a collective that is not only the oldest in the City of Los Angeles but also the ONLY collective in the nation that has Cannabis Cup award winning strains grown, from Amsterdam Seed, by some of the best growers in California. Eight years in the same location and looking forward to being the Best for eight more. Sorry, I just get tired of responding to BS from stoners. Carl
ftp, great experience
the atmosphere, staff and quality bud make this place a go-to! thanks for meeting my $40 cap AND the free bowl - we have been using it all week. :)
Gotta love the lemonade. Nice place when hanging out at the beach.

The service here is great. There buds are Evan better. Top shelf is reasonably priced. Buds are so DANKY!!
One of the best places to hit in Los Angeles...
i like amsterdam seeds
i like that they use seeds from amsterdam to
grow some of their meds. imo, all collectives
ought to strive to carry some of the great strains
available in seeds from amsterdam or other sources.
nightshade and crimea blue are both nice strains
to have. crimea blue can put me in a nice dreamland
before i go to sleep. i found the atmoshere here
pleasant as well.
Tried the Venice Cookie Company strawberry lemonade great high fast acting and taste great!!!
A (better) second experience at CAC
I thought I had written an extensive second review about my time back at CAC however it has not posted to Weedmaps. Apologies to anyone who read my previous review that is quite rambling, it got messed up while copying/pasting to post on my iPhone and well, you can tell by the rambling and incoherent nature of it at times. My bad.
Anyway, I was in Venice to get my recommendation renewed as it was that time of year again, and I decided to make a little trip out of things and head to CAC on my way home. I entered and was greeted by the same nice gentleman working the front desk as last time. He gave me 10% off for my renewal which was much appreciated and I was buzzed upstairs to the budroom.
I was informed before I walked up that they had read my review on here (a good sign that a dispensary cares about its patients' experiences) and that they did indeed have a magnifying glass/light upstairs. I somehow missed it despite it's prominent location in the center of the beautiful bud room.
Anyway, upon getting upstairs I was greeted by the same female budtender as my first visit. I must've caught her on an 'off day' last time because she was absolutely totally friendly and welcoming to me. I was in to check out the Neville's this time however they were unfortunately out of it. They need to update their Weedmaps menu a little more often.
I decided to grab an eighth of my old friend the Amnesia Lemon Haze and was stoked to find that I had won the 5 gram eighth in the batch :) Sweet! It totally made up for the fact that they accidentally gave me Pineapple Chunk instead of Pineapple Express which I had asked for. The Chunk was admittedly quite *awful* and nowhere near the donation price in quality. The haze was delicious as always and as such this spot will be my new place for my haze pickups.
It is a little pricey, but I love the beautiful budroom, the super dank (organic/outdoor) buds that are right up my alley. Just because something wasn't grown indoors, under some hydro setup with tons of crazy technology doesn't mean that it's not incredibly dank bud. The stuff here is a great example of that. I also love how the bottles are pre-sealed with plastic wrap on the top, a very professional spot indeed.
I shall be back.
